This video entertains the subject of communication between humans and computers by examining the communication between humans through computers.
I find myself frustrated as I watch technology become the basic form of communication (in the societies I associate with). This anger towards an inanimate third party is what influenced this series of work.
With "You", I seek to address the topic of conversation through distortion. I manipulated the most basic tool of the English language (text, letters) through image and overlap. I use Webdings font type as an ode to a 90’s childhood immersion with computers, as typing overpowered handwriting during my education at this time.
This specific font creates a type of text that is familiar yet incomprehensible- much like the messages being exchanged currently through computers and telephones. While the words are the same, the context is different.
This disparity is another reason I made this work, as I find that the exchanging of words through technological means leads to more confusion than connection.
