My film is an ethnographic investigation of practices surrounding religion and community on South Tarawa - the capital of Kiribati.
Before religion, people were called together with the conch shell. This is becoming rarer due to pollution and overfishing, and the conch being linked to a pagan past; the bell was brought into Kiribati culture. But, as one would imagine on a remote pacific atoll, more innovative approaches were applied.
